- The intent of this Request for Information (RFI) is to locate those with the capability to provide the following Product: The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal, Plant, Health Inspection Services, Center for Plant Health Science and Technology is seeking pricing and information on a Cryoprep Pulverizer similar to the Covaris CP02 for Nucleic acid extraction. Nucleic acid extraction is best achieved when the protective coatings of the material are fully macerated. The best process for pulverizing material has historically been to flash­freeze material in liquid nitrogen and grind using a mortar and pestle. This process suffers from user variation when grinding tissue and is an open ( exposed) process, increasing chances of leaking contaminants outside the immediate work area. The CP02 Cryoprep instrument is calibrated to deliver repeatable mechanical force to deliver cryofracture of flash-frozen samples. The controlled, high impact force to biospecimens flash-frozen in at-PREP or tissueTUBE device results in the dry cryofracture of tissue samples without direct sample contact. This system closes the process, resulting in fewer opportunities for leaked contaminants to escape, and also automates the grinding step to reduce user variation. The system allows for samples ranging in mass from 10 mg up to 2 g, which increases the types of samples that can be processed. Additionally, the sample bags that are unique to the system allow for flash-freezing prior to homogenization. Supporting product literature and specs must contain sufficient detail to demonstrate the ability to comply with the notice requirement.
