- Life Safety Code Training VA Medical Center Salt Lake City, Utah, 84148 BRIEF SCOPE OF WORK (This is for information only) Project Scope Furnish all necessary personnel, training tools, and materials to instruct VA staff on the 2018 NFPA 101 Life Safety code book. Location of training with be at the VA Salt Lake Campus, 500 Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84148. Contractor shall provide training for up to 25 personnel. The course is expected to be held during 3 consecutive days. Contractor shall furnish 25 NFPA 101 2018 code books for use by participates during the training course and 2 NFPA 101 2018 handbooks. The training course shall be orientated to healthcare and hospital environments. Instruction shall be given by a certified trainer of NFPA codes and contractor shall submit credentials before award can be issued. Contractor to provide a comprehensive test upon completion of training course and a certificate for participants who pass test. Contractor shall schedule training within 30 calendar days from award and the scheduled training shall commence within 90 days of award. Upon completion of the training course, participants should be able to: Explain, at a higher level, the structure and content to be covered in this course Explain the organization of the 2018 NFPA 101 and key Code concepts Describe Code applicability for new and existing occupancies Define and distinguish occupancy classifications and rehabilitation work categories Determine hazards of contents, stories in height, and building construction types Define three parts of means of egress Determine exit enclosure and protection Identify requirements for doors, stairs, handrails and guards, smoke proof enclosures, horizontal exits, ramps, exit passageways, escalators, fire escape stairs, fire escape ladders, and other components of means of egress Determine occupant load, egress capacity for both individual means of egress components and the entire means of egress Determine requirements for minimum width, dead-end corridors, common path of travel, remoteness, accessible means of egress (including areas of refuge), travel distance, and exit discharge Determine requirements for illumination, emergency lighting, and egress markings Determine special means of egress requirements in areas with high hazard contents Determine requirements for vertical openings, hazardous areas, interior finish, contents and furnishings, and fire alarm and extinguishing systems Differentiate among the rehabilitation categories of work identified in Chapter 43 Apply Chapter 43 requirements to a specific building rehabilitation project Identify methods of addressing rehabilitation work in Historic buildings Apply key learning points of the curriculum to a comprehensive, realistic scenario Explain how Chapter 11 provisions for special structures are applied Determine requirements for high-rise buildings, building services, and operating features Explain how the Code implements reference documents Location of performance VA Medical Center 500 Foothill Drive, Salt Lake City, UT, 84148 IMPORTANTR NOTE: This RFI (Request for Information) is for information only; no award will be made from this RFI.
