Set Aside Code: Unrestricted Place of Performance: US Army Engineer District, New England 696 Virginia Road Concord, MA 01742-2751 Title: Upgrade Elevators Buildings 2 and 9, Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System (VABHS), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts Description: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District is issuing the presolicitation notice for a Construction project at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. The estimated construction cost is between $1,000,000.00 and $5,000,000.00. The project scope of work consists of furnishing a new elevator in Building 2 and a new elevator in Building 9 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. In addition, the current elevators (1 in each building) shall be upgraded as part of this work. The existing Building 2 is a "Hop-tel" for patients receiving treatment who are not admitted to the medical center to stay overnight before they go home. The existing Building 9 is a VAMC Administration and Research staff building. The contractor shall furnish and install a new 7 stop (basement, penthouse, and 5 story), 4,000 lbs electric traction elevator in Building 2. As part of this work, the contractor shall construct a new elevator tower at the entrance of Building 2. Work includes but not limited to general construction; alterations of existing space; mechanical and electrical work; installation of new elevator, work on fire alarm and utility systems; and site restoration work. The upgrade of the existing Building 2 elevator (Elevator 2-1 - 2,500 lbs) includes new cabs, new shaft doors, new power supply, and new machine room cooling. The contractor shall furnish and install a new 6 stop (basement, penthouse, and 4 story), 4,000 lbs electric traction elevator in Building 9. As part of this work, the contractor shall construct a new elevator tower at the entrance of Building 9. Work includes but not limited to general construction; alterations of existing space; mechanical and electrical work; installation of new elevator, work on fire alarm and utility systems; and site restoration work. The upgrade of the existing Building 9 elevator (Elevator 9-1 - 4,000 lbs) includes new cabs, new shaft doors, new power supply, and new machine room cooling. In addition, a building wide lightning protection system shall be provided for Building 9, along with the relocation of an existing transformer and all connections at Building 9. This project involves civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, geotechnical, and architectural disciplines. The work is located adjacent to and within an active and occupied VAMC campus. Day to day operations and patient care will be ongoing on in the existing medical facility during the construction of the project. Both Buildings 2 and 9 will be occupied and operational during the installation of the new elevators and the upgrade of the existing elevators. Impact to on-going operations must be kept to a minimum and carefully coordinated with the Contracting Officer and VAMC staff. This is not a request for proposals at this time, the solicitation requirements and documents will include instructions for submission and the response date, will be available o/a 3 August 2018.
