- Description
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, a firm fixed price purchase order, on a sole source basis, with Carl Zeiss, Microscopy, LLC, 1 Zeiss Drive, Thornwood, NY. For the purchase of an inverted fluorescence microscope system for NIST. The system is required to be 100% compatibility with the existing laboratory equipment which can ONLY be obtained directly from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Carl Zeiss. This will be other than full and open competition, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1). Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements: NIST requires microscope objective lenses to support the measurement of nanoscale particles and single molecules. The microscope objective lenses to be procured must be compatible with NIST existing Carl Zeiss Microscope (CZM) hardware. The existing microscopes are assembled from a variety of proprietary CZM components that are not, interchangeable or compatible with commercial off-the-shelf components or systems from other microscope manufacturers. In accordance with the information above and market research. Specifically, no other vendor can meet the NIST requirements for an inverted fluorescence microscope system. Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC is the only source able to provide the required microscope system. This is proprietary and is only available from Carl Zeiss. Carl Zeiss does not have any authorized distributors/resellers. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 333314, and the size standard is 500. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to this requirement. The Government will consider responses received by 1:00 p.m. (EST) August 3, 2018. Inquiries will only be accepted via email to Barbara.suhrie@nist.gov. No telephone requests will be honored.
