Description
The following six additional questions are added to the "Business Practices" section of the notice. Please provide your responses by July 31, 2PM Central. The USAF has identified operability of a twin engine pod configuration as a program risk, and we are considering mitigating that risk via engine OEM Flying Test Bed (FTB) program with support from the B-52 OEM, Boeing. 23. In addition to basic engine operability throughout the flight envelope, the B-52 has the added issue of engine operability in the disrupted airflow behind a large tanker aircraft during aerial-refueling. Are there any restrictions that would prohibit this type of testing, or other military-unique flight profiles (such as minimal interval take off (MITO) and tactical maneuvers) in your FTB? 24. What is the estimated lead time to modify/manufacture and install all the required hardware including OEM-owned engines on your FTB aircraft to support a FTB? Identify any Government Furnished Property you would require. 25. Once the FTB is modified, what is the estimated duration needed to execute an in-flight twin engine pod operability demonstration? Please include any assumptions in your response. 26. After the flight demonstration, how much time would you need to prepare a summary of results, conclusions and recommendations? 27. Based on your answers to the questions above, what would be a rough order of magnitude cost for such an effort (modification/manufacture, demonstration, and report)? 28. Please identify any other constraints or other issues affecting a twin-engine pod FTB program.
