- Description
- The Joint Pathology Center (JPC) at 606 Stephen Sitter Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910 has a requirement to procure several single-headed and multi-headed Olympus BX-series microscopes. The government intends to solicit and negotiate a contract solely with Olympus, 48 Woerd Ave, Waltham, MA 02453. Preliminary market research indicates that only Olympus, as the manufacturer of the instruments, can provide the required capability due to the proprietary nature of cameras and objective lenses currently in use by the JPC that will continue to be used in the new instruments being procured; procured instruments must be compatible with the existing inventory and must be able to interface with current equipment. This notice is not a request for competitive quotations, and a solicitaiton for this requirement will not be issued. Prospective offerors are advised that, because there are no other known sources, the agency has authorized procurement of this istem under FAR Part 6.302-1(c)(1). However, interested responsible sources may submit a capability statement for the agency's consideration in determining whether a competitive procurement should be conducted for future similar requirements. A copy of the Justification & Approval will be posted no later than 14 days after contract award.
