Description

The Department of Veterans Affairs, Salt Lake City VA Medical Center intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, pursuant to FAR 6.302-1, for a Markforged 3d metal printing system which will them us to design and print our own implants and prototypes for research dealing with percutaneous osseointegrated amputees. The Mark Forged Metal X 3D metal printer can be safely used in a standard office environment; other commercially available metal prototyping systems require specialized clean-room conditions, involve hazardous materials, and utilize high-powered lasers or electron beams, thus requiring extensive structural modifications to the facility to mitigate multiple safety risks. The Mark Forged Metal X 3D metal printer is the only commercially available system that can be used in a standard office environment that will allow complete production of metal prototype parts in a variety of metal alloys including Stainless Steel and Titanium both required for use in the orthopaedic device industry.   This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, any responsible source who believes it is capable of meeting the requirement may submit a capability statement to the contracting office no later than August 27th, 2018, 9:00am, EST. Interest/capability statements may be sent to Lynn Portman at lynn.portman@va.gov. No telephone responses will be accepted. A determination not to compete the proposed requirement based upon the responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
