- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Environmental Health, Division of Laboratory Services. needs to issue a purchase order with The CEM Corporation of Matthew, NC to upgrade their existing Liberty Blue peptide synthesizer, the second generation of the microwave based synthesizer provided by the CEM Corporation. The total period of performance is 12 months, base and options included. Pursuant to, FAR 13.106(1) (b), Soliciting from a single source, (1) for purchases not exceeding the simplified acquisition threshold, (i) Contracting officers may solicit from one source if the contracting officer determines that the circumstances of the contract action deem only one source reasonably available (e.g., urgency, exclusive licensing agreements, brand-name or industrial mobilization). It has been determined that this vendor is the only manufacturer for both of CDC's current synthesizer (Liberty Blue) and the proposed upgrade to that system (Liberty Prime). The Liberty Prime is the only upgrade option that will work with the existing system and will enable us to synthesize peptides in half the time. Therefore, award of a Firm-Fixed Price purchase order to CEM is being contemplated in accordance with FAR Part 12 and in conjunction with FAR Part 13 with applicable Sub-Part. However, anyone who wishes to be considered may submit a quote and a capability statement addressing this requirement and comparing their product with the one offered by the CME Corporation for our review and consideration prior to the due date of this RFQ.
