- Justification for a sole source award One of the most significant challenges in dealing with emerging pests is the difficulty in treating remote or difficult to access populations, or populations adjacent to sensitive areas or water, which cannot be managed adequately with conventional application technology. Recent advances in Remotely Piloted Systems (RPS) offer significant improvement in the precision placement of pesticide applications which may be unsuitable for treatment through conventional aerial or ground based application, and may offer significant improvements in program efficiency related to treatment efficacy, cost, and applicator safety. Current methodologies may result in excessive costs, or present unacceptable risks to the applicator and the environment due to pesticide drift. By utilizing RPS mounted systems, we may reduce application risk, cost, and improve efficacy while reducing pesticide drift by having an application platform within a much closer proximity to the canopy and pest species allowing much more precise application. All state and federal regulations will be followed. The contractor will be required to have a FAA Part 137 Certificate and 333 exemption. This work will take place in Montana and or Idaho and the contractor will be required to be licensed to perform UAS pesticide application in these states.
