Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Abaxis, Inc. for Abaxis Vetscan HM5 Hematology Analyzers with reagent packs and controls. The Abaxis HM5 is a fully-automated hematology analyzer. This unit is easy to use with a small footprint, limited maintenance requirements, and is able to withstand decontamination, making it a widely used platform in containment labs. This unit was designed for use with animal samples and can be run using very small sample sizes, which is imperative for our studies using animals such as mice, where the total blood volume obtained per animal is nominal. This is also the platform being used by the Comparative Medicine Branch in building 23, who we regularly collaborate with. These units will allow us to standardize our BSL-3 and BSL-4 containment research with the data from our colleagues in CMB.. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1)..
