Description

The Library of Congress, Preservation Research and Testing Division (PRTD) requires a liquid chromatography pumping, sampling, and separations unit for size exclusion chromatography applications. This unit must include four-solvent mixing, at least 2000psi capacity at l.0mL/min flow rate, auto-sampling capabilities, and temperature-controlled housing to accommodate up to four 300mm-long columns. Additionally, the unit must be able to be digitally and directly controlled and configured from PRTD's existing detector software from Wyatt Technology, and it must be resistant to corrosion from salt solutions of lithium chloride in N,Ndimethylacetamide. This system will be used to evaluate degradation of cellulosic paper materials representative of the Library's paper-based collections and provide recommendations for their preservation.
