Description

This RFI is for a Simulated Ammunition System for training in order to increase the readiness of Soldiers and units while decreasing the costs. Soldiers are constrained using blank rounds due to cost, availability/logistics, inconsistency, weapon cleaning/servicing, safety, and environmental considerations. Blank munitions require blank firing adapters and MILES 2000-like apparatus to conduct pre-live fire training. This laser-based system does not require the usage of blanks and reduces the fiscal burden and need for thousands of rounds of blank ammunition which typically foul up weapons potentially used in combat. Additionally, this system reduces the risk of Soldier mixing blank and live ammunition. Currently employed blank firing adaptors also have the potential of damaging combat rifle barrels and their flash hiders.
