- Description
- The U.S. Army Contracting Command - Aberdeen Proving Ground, Natick Contracting Division (ACC-APG-NCD), has a requirement on behalf of Product Manager - Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment (PM-SCIE). The Electronic Automatic Activation Device (EEAAD) is a response to a need identified by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) for an improved automatic activation device system for use during airborne operations utilizing ram-air parachute systems. The EEAAD is needed to improve the survivability of the Airborne Soldier and preserve the Commander's available combat power when conducting airborne operations, during both combat and training missions. The EEAAD is a safety device, intended for use by parachutists executing either High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) or High Altitude High Opening (HAHO) jumps, which activates a parachutist's reserve parachute automatically in the event the parachutist is unable to activate the reserve parachute at the intended altitude, or loss of altitude awareness. The EEAAD is a mission critical piece of equipment whose failure during operational use could cause loss of life, permanent disability, and/ or major injury and therefore is designated a Critical Safety Item (CSI)."
