- Description
- The purpose of this project is to replace the existing fire hydrant loop around the Historic Timberline Lodge, lodge and existing hydrant loop were constructed in the 1930's, with a new branching fire hydrant line meeting present day fire code requirements. The Historic Lodge is located at tree line (approx. 6000 ft elev.) on the flanks of Mt Hood, 60 miles from Portland OR and 70 miles for The Dalles OR. From the Mt Hood National Forest Headquarters (16400 Champion Way, Sandy, OR 97055) take highway 26 east for 30 miles then turn left onto Timberline Highway. Continue on Timberline Highway for 6 miles until it dead ends at the parking lot for the hotel. The Historic Lodge is run by a concessionaire (RLK) and operates as a hotel year round, accommodating skiers and snowboarders in the winter, and hosting weddings and events in the summer. This project will require considerable coordination with both the Forest Service and concessionaire (RLK) to assure minimal impacts to historical, environmental, and recreational resources. The Historic Lodge has a large amount of existing utilities that will need to be located prior to construction and carefully excavated around during construction. Additionally due to the high elevation, soil conditions, presence of sensitive species, and a short growing season the vegetation surrounding the lodge is fragile and susceptible. Construction operations will need to excavate carefully, sometimes by hand, around existing vegetation. Proposed excavation and revegetation will need to be approved by Forest Service specialists. Finally, construction operations and schedules will need to be communicated to the concessionaire (RLK) weekly to mitigate impacts to guests staying in the Historic Lodge. The proposed new hydrant line includes two branches, the West Branch and East Branch. The base bid includes the West Branch of the proposed system and bid option 1 includes the East Branch of the system. The base bid includes the following items associated with the West Branch: • Locating existing utilities that may intersect the proposed hydrant line • Demolition of existing paved road surfaces and paths under which the proposed hydrant line will be installed • Careful handling and storage of native vegetation that lies within clearing limits of trenching • Trenching to an average depth of 5ft to install hydrant main piping • Installing 18", 12", 10", 8" and 6" Ductile Iron pipe, accessories, and mechanical joints for an approx. 1000 ft long hydrant main • Installing three fire hydrants with valve box assemblies • Replacing current Fire Department Connection • Installing Air Release Valve • Backfilling over installed hydrant main with approved crushed rock and natural backfill • Reconstructing road surface, and paved paths demolished for trenching In-Kind • Testing fire hydrant performance for final acceptance • Providing the appropriate local, state, and federal permits Option 1 includes the following items associated with the East Branch: • Locating existing utilities that may intersect the proposed hydrant line • Demolition of existing paved road surfaces and paths under which the proposed hydrant line will be installed • Careful handling and storage of native vegetation that lies within clearing limits of trenching • Trenching to an average depth of 5ft to install hydrant main piping • Installing 8" and 6" Ductile Iron pipe, accessories, and mechanical joints for an approx. 500 ft long hydrant main • Installing one fire hydrant with valve box assembly, concrete pad, and bollards • Backfilling over installed hydrant main with approved crushed rock and natural backfill • Reconstructing road surface demolished for trenching In-Kind • Testing fire hydrant performance for final acceptance • Providing the appropriate local, state, and federal permits NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO FEDBIZOPPS ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (03-APR-2019); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE.
