Description

NASA Shared Services Center intends to issue a firm-fixed price contract on a sole source basis to Vertiv Corporation for removal and replacement of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) capacitors and batteries in existing UPS systems currently under a maintenance contract with Vertiv Corporation. The UPS and Batteries infrastructure located at the National Center for Critical Information Processing and Storage (NCCIPS) Complex require immediate replacement due to developing cracks in battery strings. Per the manufacture, the recommended replacement period for batteries is 6-7 years. The current batteries aged to the 6 year point in November 2016. With the age of the batteries, the failure rate increases dramatically. Failures can cause the facility to bypass failed batteries in the strings reducing the UPS capacity, causing a dramatic impact on NCCIPS customers during any power failure. While the customer impact is critical, the more immediate need for replacement lies in the risk of personal injury or harm from potential battery explosions during a catastrophic battery failure. Until replacement can occur, safety equipment is required by anyone working or even passing through the electrical shelters in question.
