The purpose of this notice is to conduct market research and obtain information from qualified vendors with special interest. No solicitation is being issued at this time. This notice shall not be construed as a commitment by the Government to ultimately award a contract, nor does it restrict the Government to a particular acquisition approach. Statement of Work Avanti JXN-30 High Performance Centrifuge Background: This is a Statement of Work for purchase of an Avanti JXN-30 High Performance Centrifuge for use in the laboratory. Objectives: The purchase of this item will allow us to conduct research which studies the role and mechanisms by which host sphingolipids are involved in controlling the infection caused by the pathogenic fungus Cryptococcus neoformans. This item will allow us to perform routine separations of sub-cellular components via gradients and pelleting in a wide variety of tubes and bottles. Extracted components include proteins, microsomes, vesicles, DNA, and RNA. The sphingolipids in the protein, microsomal, and vesicle extracts will be analyzed. DNA and RNA extracts will be analyzed to elucidate the role of genes related to the sphingolipid biosynthetic pathway. Place of performance: Equipment will reside in the laboratory at Stony Brook University Life Science Building 143 Stony Brook, NY 11794-5222. Scope or Tasks (for services) / Product Specifications (for supplies): The Beckman Coulter Avanti JXN-30 centrifuge can accommodate high speed centrifugation of large volumes. High speed centrifugation (100,000xg) of large volumes (up to 4L) is essential for sub-cellular component extractions. Avanti JXN-30 High Performance Centrifuge can accommodate up to 4 liters of sample at 16,800xg, and 400ml with a maximum speed of 108,860xg.
