- Description
- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District requires a contract to provide maintenance dredging of upper Wilmington Harbor federal navigation channel reaches including the Anchorage Basin, Between Channel, Upper Brunswick Channel, Lower Brunswick Channel, and the North Carolina State Ports Authority (NCSPA) berth areas and Turning Basin Extension, and lower Wilmington Harbor federal navigation channel reaches consisting of Horseshoe Shoal Channel and Snows Marsh Channel. The work will consist of removal and disposal of shoaled material that has accumulated in the channels and berth areas since the various areas were last dredged. The work will require a hydraulic cutter suction dredge. Dredging depths are 42' plus 2' of allowable overdepth for the Anchorage Basin, Between Channel, Upper Brunswick Channel, Lower Brunswick channel, Horseshoe Shoal Channel, and Snows Marsh Channel. Dredging depths are 39+ plus 1' of allowable overdepth for the NCSPA berth areas 1 and 2 and 43' plus 1' of allowable overdepth for the NCSPA berth areas 3,4,5,6,7,8,and 9 and Turning Basin Extension. The estimated quantity of material to be dredged is 1.7 million cubic yards. The Government furnished disposal area for the upper Wilmington Harbor federal navigation channel reaches and NCSPA berth areas is the Eagle Island Cell No. 3 upland diked disposal area. Ferry Slip Island and South Pelican Island are the government furnished disposal areas for Horseshoe Shoal and Snows Marsh Channels. The environmental window for dredging the NCSPA berth areas is 1 October 2019 through 31 January 2020. The environmental window for dredging the Wilmington Harbor federal navigation channel reaches is 1 August 2019 through 31 January 2020. There is no environmental window for dredging Horseshoe Shoal and Snows Marsh Channels. The environmental window for placement of dredged material on Ferry Slip and South Pelican Islands is 1 September 2019 through 31 March 2020.
