- Description
- Sources Sought The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing a paleomagnetic sample handling system to couple with the USGS owned cryogenic magnetometer as described in the attached Salient Characteristics. This sources sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information for responding to this notice. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code - 334519 Other Measuring and Controlling Device Manufacturing and associated size standard 500 employees apply to this announcement. All responsible sources may submit a brochure and/or technical specifications detailing the ability of their product to meet the salient characteristics included with this announcement. Responses to this announcement shall only be accepted through electronic mail addressed to nlushenko@usgs.gov and must be uploaded and received in their entirety no later than May 13, 2019 1700 ET. Responses submitted by hardcopy or the FedConnect web portal or the FedConnect Message Center shall not be accepted or considered. Salient Characteristics: Specifications required for new sample handling system: * Removeable plastic tray with up to 99 sample capacity * Trays are lightweight, portable, and can be USGS laboratory specified not standard available sample tray. * Trays must be able to handle sediment samples in plastic boxes and optimized for the cylindrical rock samples. * Computer controlled XY horizontal tray movement. * System configured to handle any number of samples with 1 to 99 sample loading control. * A maximum of 99 sample tray holds, with options to run any number of samples without the system requiring the user load a specific number of samples. * Motor driven vacuum provides sample pickup from tray * Motors control up/down and rotational movement of samples * System configured for streamlined and integrated sample processing * System includes magnetometer, support measurement and control units. Included dedicated computer and monitor * Degaussing system consists of 2 Helmholz transverse coils and axial in-line coil * Axial coil has max field of 3KG, w/ transverse coils max field of 1.25KG * IRM and ARM coils mounted in-line * Max IRM field is 10KG, max ARM field is 10G * System software is Paleomag software upgraded to support operation * System allows both manual and automatic sample handling, degaussing and data acquisition via SAM file data format NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO FEDBIZOPPS ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (02-MAY-2019); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE.
