The NAICS code is 339113 with a small business size standard of 1,000. The VA intends to solicit and negotiate with Marathon Medical Corporation, a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business (SDVOSB) distributor for Joerns at, 3251 Lewiston St. #16, Aurora, CO 80011 for specialty mattresses. Fluid immersion surfaces (Dolphin) provides these therapeutic needs by redistributing body pressures over a larger surface area by allowing the patient to penetrate or sink into the support surface. This mimics a fluid surface using air cells. The air flow also allows for microclimate control this is a constant battle in the SCI population as patients mobility is greatly decreased. Even with routine turning protocols sweating occurs, this moisture decreases skin integrity. Once skin integrity is compromised, there increased risk for friction and sheering, as well as pressure released skin breakdown. Fluid immersion surfaces are the gold standard that should be considered when treating stage 3 and stage 4 pressure injuries.
