- 1 Endobronchial Ultrasound Bronchoscopy System Requestor/Program Manager Name: Dr. Frank Austan Title: Director of Respiratory Care Services Section: Medicine Service Address: CMCVAMC Medical Center 3900 Woodland Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19139 Phone Number: (215) 823-5800 ex 6281 E-Mail Address: Frank.Austan@va.gov Olympus Endobronchial Ultrasound Bronchoscopy System The Philadelphia s CMCVA Medical Center is seeking to upgrade its currently used Olympus EBUS system purchased 6 years ago. EBUS technology the last 6 years has exponentially evolved into improving the staging of lung cancer. The following characteristics are met by the proposed Olympus EBUS system: Can provide transbronchial needle aspiration that has higher diagnostic yield than the currently used system. Can provide greater precision in optics that visualize the airway wall invasion helping to categorize the tumor component of staging and surgical resection planning. Can combine endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration to near complete sampling of mediastinum using a single endobronchial ultrasound bronchoscope. Can also be used to restage the lung cancer in mediastinum. Other factors of Consideration to Purchasing Olympus Medical: Olympus equipment (Endoscopes) is standardized equipment used at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center by the following clinical section, G.I. Suite, ENT, Pulmonary and Surgery. Philadelphia VA Surgeons, Pulmonologists and ENT Specialist are trained in the operational use of Olympus Endoscopes, highly specialized equipment. The supply chain for Olympus endoscopes is established at the medical center. RECOMMENDATION We recommend the purchase of the Olympus EBUS System and the contract be awarded to Alliant Health Care Products, A Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, located at: 333 Bridge St., NW Ste 1125, Grand Rapids, MI 49504.
