- Description
- This posting is to provide notification of an Industry Day scheduled for 21 June 2019. The 45th Operations Group/45th Contracting Squadron is in the process of contracting with private industry to provide technical assistance, analysis, recommendations, observations, and products in direct support to unit mission priorities and objectives. This support will enable the 45th Operations Group, Detachment 3 (Det 3), to fulfill its United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) assigned responsibilities. For the purpose of this contract, USSTRATCOM-assigned responsibilities pertain to three NASA HSFS missions. The Commercial Crew (CCP) mission provides transportation to-and-from the International Space Station (ISS). Over the period of this contract, both CCP providers (Boeing and SpaceX) will have transitioned from test flight activities to regular crewed missions to the ISS at an anticipated rate of two flights per year total. The Orion Program provides a deep-space exploration capability for missions to the moon, near-earth asteroids, and destinations yet to be named. Over the period of this contract, Orion will fly their first crewed test flight mission and begin subsequent missions at an anticipated flight rate of one per year. The Soyuz Program provides astronaut medical evacuation (via Air Force C-17 aircraft) from Kazakhstan to a suitable medical facility in Germany or Russia with an anticipated flight rate of four missions per year. The role of the Contractor for this effort will be two-fold: 1) facilitate Det 3 decisions and actions and 2) provide support to accomplish mission objectives. Contractor personnel will provide support to Det 3 in the following areas: 1. Amphibious Ship Support: The contractor shall support the employment of U.S. Navy Amphibious Ships (Amphibious Transport, Dock (LPD), Amphibious Assault Ship (LHD), or Landing Ship, Dock (LSD)) and small boats to recover the astronauts and the crew module at Orion nominal end-of-mission. 2. Well Deck Support: The contractor shall support the employment of U.S. Navy Amphibious Ship (LPD, LHD, or LSD) well deck to recover the astronauts and the crew module at Orion nominal end-of-mission. 3. Diving, Salvage, and Open Water Support: The contractor shall support the employment of Diving, Salvage and Open Water operations to recover the astronauts and the crew module at Orion nominal end-of-mission and, if necessary, rescue Orion astronauts in the event of a post-splashdown contingency.
