Description

NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to negotiate a contract on a sole source basis with Bertec Corporation., Columbus, OH. The purpose of the contract is for the contractor to supply the Bertec Balance Advantage-CDP/IVR to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). Vestibular/Balance testing is a primary component of the clinical research conducted in the Audiology Unit. This equipment currently supports our own research, and also studies being conducted across multiple NIH institutes (e.g., NINDS, NEI, CC). Vestibular/balance testing includes balance sensory organization, limits of postural stability, motor control reflex, and balance adaptation. This equipment is an integral component to the comprehensive vestibular test battery. New equipment is being requested to replace the aging and obsolete Neurocom Balance Master system purchased in 2005. While the Neurocom Balance Master is still in use, the product is no longer manufactured, and support is not available. This creates difficulties ensuring repair and software support, in addition to insufficient data backup processes due to incompatibility with the current network infrastructure and the system's Window's XP operating system. This may result in potential loss of data during down-time when the equipment is out of calibration, performing intermittently, or waiting on repair (if possible). Bertec Corporation is a single-source provider for such posturography equipment within the marketplace. As part of the negotiations, LI-COR will provide Foundations Course including travel and take on expenses related Clinical Training & Installation CDP/IVR.
