Description
The Orphans & Vulnerable Children & Youth (OVCY) Advisor assists the HIV Prevention & OVC Team Leader in working closely with U.S. Government (USG) agencies to ensure orphans and vulnerable children issues are appropriately addressed within the context of PEPFAR. As such, this position serves as the technical advisor to the USAID Health Team, in the area of programming to mitigate the impact of HIV on children and their families by increasing access to education, social protection programs, protection services, and economic strengthening opportunities with the aim of helping children reach their full developmental potential-physical, cognitive, socio-emotional. The Orphans & Vulnerable Children & Youth (OVCY) Advisor will work in close collaboration with other PEPFAR team members including the Prevention & Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVC) team leader, the OVC Specialist, the youth advisor, the gender advisor, education advisor, and other technical experts from the USAID Health Team and other USG agencies. He/she will be responsible for contributing and supporting the overall strategic direction, relevance, coverage and quality of the orphans & vulnerable children portfolio and for the design, implementation and evaluation of related OVCY activities implemented by USAID. S/He is a critical part of the Prevention & OVC team and provides specific OVCY technical assistance to the broader health office portfolio. S/He is actively engaged in the U.S. government inter-agency as part of the PEPFAR OVCY Technical Working Group. S/He works closely with the South African Department of Social Development, Department of Health, Department of Education, civil society and other South African government institutions to advance the goals of PEPFAR related to children. He/she will also be responsible for ensuring the coherence and coordination of USAID’s OVC activities with interventions funded by other USG agencies together with the OVC team members.
