- Under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers intent to require, on a sole source basis, a brand name requirement for the manufacturer Simplex to supply the Fire Alarm System related to new construction at Natick Soldier Systems Center, Massachusetts. Fire alarm control panels (FACP) installed at Natick Soldier Systems Center require point to point reporting to the central reporting station. The central reporting station is currently a Simplex reporting system which displays alarm information via a Simplex True Site graphical workstation. Other manufacturers do not offer the compatibility for reporting on a discrete point by point basis with the central Simplex reporting station. The contractor installing the fire protection system will be required to purchase the Simplex panels in order to meet the compatibility requirements for reporting at Natick Soldier Systems Center. The increased level of information will result in more informed and faster response by the fire department to the emergency. The panels are required to be Simplex to ensure listed compatibility when transmitting to the base wide Simplex reporting system. Any other equipment manufacture will not report on a point by point basis to the central reporting station. Installing equipment from other manufacturers would transmit only generic signals. The limited information may delay fire department response and lead to longer investigation times upon arrival. The S2PRINT project requires a new FACP to be installed. The new FACP shall be Simplex.
