Description
Statement of Work Purpose: The purpose of this project is to perform technical histology work for, primarily, the Mohs lab at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. Some overlapping of routine histology work on an as needed basis will also be offered. Scope / Major Project Activities: Create Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained slides, to include the following: Receive and document Mohs surgical specimens from the Mohs Surgeon. Ink and map the specimen on the provided Mohs map/report. Make relaxing incisions to allow for up to 100% of surgical margins to be seen on the final H&E stained slide(s). Embed and section the specimen on the cryostat provided. Place section on glass slides and stain with traditional Hematoxylin and eosin and coverslip. Deliver H&E stained slides and Mohs map to the Mohs Surgeon and maintain communication with the surgeon at all times to ensure expedited flow of work. Maintain provided documentation needed for CLIA inspection criteria. Document such things as cryostat temperature and stain line maintenance and other required documentation. Assist in the creating of a Mohs Lab policy and procedure manual. Monitor consumable supplies and notify appropriate personnel to order. Maintain communication with scheduling personnel to ensure availability of technicians. This will include, on occasion, any routine (non-Mohs) histology work. All the work indicated above will be provided on an ongoing basis. It is understood that the work will be needed approximately one to two days per week at an agreed upon schedule. This project does not include contractor purchasing any consumable supplies or equipment. This is solely for the technical work needed to create quality H&E stained slides to the Mohs surgeon to diagnose and to assist as needed in the routine histology lab.
