Description

On behalf of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC)'s Nutrition Services Department (NSD), the Defense Health Agency's (DHA) National Capital Region Contracting Division (NCR-CD) intends to procure food products and supplies on a sole source basis from U.S. Foods, Inc. U.S. Foods's historical performance and experience with the Defense Health Agency (DHA) enables U.S. Foods to provide the full scope of food products and supplies required by the Nutrition Services Department at this time. No other vendor was found that could provide food products with a variety of food types (i.e. shelf stable, refrigerated, frozen, raw, and precooked) including nutrient modified, consistency modified, allergy-free, private label, branded label, and sustainable foods. Multiple product choices of food types and grade levels, allowing for various price levels. A variety of pack sizes including individual portion packs, small/medium multi-serve packaging and large bulk packs. A broad inventory of supply products such as: paper, plastics, foil, etc., chemicals for cleaning and sanitation, and small food services equipment such as: scoops, ladles, tongs, can openers, pans, trays, etc. Products that support "Green" environmental practices. Products in accordance with their designated quality level or specification as listed in the product description in the electronic catalog and on product labels. Manufacturer/supplier corporate HACCP plans with manufacturing and distribution facilities that comply with all applicable state and federal health regulations, FDA Food Code Standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) as outlined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and found in 21 CFR Part 110. As well as offer just-in-time deliveries with lead-times from one to five days. Market research was conducted and it was found that U.S. Foods, Inc. is the only vendor capable and willing to provide food products and supplies for the Nutrition Services Department, due to the large varied volume and quality demands.
