Description

STARBASE Nellis seeks to collaborate with a non-profit agency to serve as an employer of four STARBASE Nellis employees. STARBASE Nellis, created in 2012 supported by the 926th Wing at Nellis AFB, is a Defense Department premier educational program designed to motivate students to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Employees teach STEM in a nontraditional way to 1,100 elementary students, primarily fifth graders, from Clark County School District. From rockets to racecars to fighter jets, students learn and apply STEM through hands-on, mind-on activities while having fun. Additionally, STARBASE Nellis works with the Moapa Indian Reservation where it runs their summer science program. STARBASE Nellis also runs an after school 2.0 program for higher-grade levels with Monaco Middle School. The STARBASE program as a whole has served over 1 million students and improved students' performance in physics, chemistry, and mathematics by 36%, 32%, and 19%respectively.
