- Notice of Intent to Sole Source for continued phased taxonomic research on endangered Red Wolf The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Atlanta, Georgia intends to negotiate a sole source procurement, in accordance with FAR Part 13.501(a) and 41 USC 253 (c) (1). The intent is to solicit a single source for the continued phased taxonomic research on endangered Red Wolf. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service intent is to sole source the requirement to National Academy of Sciences, 2101 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington D.C. The North American Industry Classification System code is 541690, size standard $15.00. At the request of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will convene an ad hoc committee to provide independent guidance about taxonomic research on the Red Wolf, Canis rufus: As today, Red Wolf status as a ¿valid species ¿ has been confirmed, and this finding leads us to next actions (1) a study to assess if a recently discovered group of individuals in southern Louisiana can be considered a valid Red Wolf population and (2) a research strategy to examine the taxonomic relationships between ancient red wolves, the managed (experimental) red wolf populations in North Carolina, and the unidentified canids in southeastern Louisiana. For both phases, the committee will build on the 2019 report ¿Evaluating the Taxonomic Status of the Mexican Gray Wolf and the Red Wolf ¿. This notice is for notification purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation for bids, quotes, or proposals.
