- Description
- Combined Synopsis/Solicitation The Material Measurement Science Division within the Material Measurement Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is involved in a growing research effort in the field of thermo-fluidic flow visualization for contraband detection. This effort focuses on the development of innovative tools and techniques to visualize gas and aerosol transport related to technology used to detect explosives, illicit drugs, and other contraband materials. Infrared videography (using infrared cameras) has been a crucial component to this effort and remains the primary imaging tool used in the laboratory for these endeavors. Infrared videography enables the visualization of phenomena that would otherwise be impossible to see with traditional video camera systems. The size requirement is necessary for the camera to fit into an experimental system located at NIST that has specific dimensions. The Surface and Trace Chemical Analysis Group within the division has had an infrared camera system for over 15 years. This camera is now a legacy item and is not compatible with current Windows operating systems and is no longer supported by the manufacturer. Therefore, the group requires an updated camera to help support research activities in fluid flow visualization. Reference the attached combined synopsis/solicitation.
