- Statement of Need For the Raymond Order Picker 5300 3 September 2019 The NIH Clinical Center MMESD is the sponsoring institution at the National Institutes of Health responsible for providing medical/surgical, and cleaning supplies in support of patient care. The Gaithersburg Distribution Center (GDC) staff is currently using the Raymond Order Picker 5300 and they have frequency code already installed at the GDC to operate the wire guide system, which will prevent the Order Picker from hitting the racks that store the supplies. We do not have a material handling equipment called the Order Picker model 5300 to pull the medical supplies from the warehouse storage racks. Instead, we are relying on the GDC staff to pull the supplies when they can. This is creating a backlog for our staff, because of the long wait time. By having our own Order Picker 5300, this will alleviate that lag time. The Raymond Order Picker 5300 meets our safety, ergonomics and compatibility needs with our counterparts at the GDC. We would prefer the Raymond Order Picker 5300 over the Crown and Hyster models. If we do not get the Order Picker, the pulling of customer orders will continue to be slow and impact patient care, because we will not be able to deliver medical supplies to the Clinical staff in a timely manner.
