HIV-1 HCV PCR reagents and supplies 1. Background. Service: Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service, Core Laboratory Requestor: Supervisory Medical Technologist Recent develops in molecular biology have made it possible to detect and characterize viral nucleic acids. PCR enables the amplification of specific areas of interest on the virus itself. Quantification and qualification are automatically performed. This type of testing has resulted in the diagnosis of many viruses and assisted with monitoring the antiviral treatment with HIV-1 and HCV. The ability to diagnosis a viral infection when a viral culture is unavailable as well as the ability to exclude viral infections can help avoid unnecessary therapies such as powerful antibiotics and antiviral medications. Materials with the longest outdates (preferably a year whenever possible) will be shipped. Materials will be scheduled for shipment according to the needs of the PCR. Materials will be shipped within 3 business days of ordering. Items will be delivered to the dock area of VA Pittsburgh HCS, University Drive division. The Core Lab Blood Bank supervisor and the Hematology Special Procedures Quality Assurance Technologist will order supplies for this contract. Quarterly updates of materials shipped from the vendor will be sent via email to the PCR contact at VA Pittsburgh. Printed SDS will be available upon request.
