- Description
- Save the Date Flyer The project work consists of construction dredging to provide for the Federally authorized project improvements and Local Sponsor Berthing Areas of Port Everglades Harbor, Florida. To facilitate the authorized project, the deepening and widening contract will dredge the following features: (1) Outer Entrance Channel (OEC) to a depth of 56 feet MLLW plus one foot allowable overdepth, including extending the channel by 2200' to the East and the widening of the outer portion of the cut from 500' to 800'; (2) Inner Entrance Channel (IEC) to a depth of 49 feet MLLW plus one foot allowable overdepth; (3) Middle Turning Basin (MTB) to a depth of 49 feet MLLW plus one foot allowable overdepth, including a 300' expanded widener at the intersection of the IEC and the southeast side of the MTB; (4) Southport Access Channel (SAC) to a depth of 49 feet MLLW plus one foot allowable overdepth to approximately the south end of berth 32, including a 250' widening on the eastern side in the vicinity of berths 23-26 known as the knuckle; (5) Turning Notch (TN) to a depth of 49 feet MLLW plus one foot allowable overdepth, including the Sponsor expanded western portion, a 100' widening on the eastern edge of the SAC over a length of approximately 1,845', and a widener approach on the western edge of the SAC tapering from a width of approximately 130 feet at the north edge of the TN the south end of berth 29; and (6) Port Everglades Berthing Areas to a depth of 49 feet MLLW plus one foot allowable overdepth, including an expansion of the berthing areas into the existing Federal channel. Total quantity to be dredged from the Federal Channel is approximately 5.3 million cubic yards (cy) and from the Berthing Areas is approximately 300,000 cy. All dredged material will be placed in the expanded ODMDS located approximately 4 statute miles from the eastern end of the OEC. In addition to dredging, the project work involves several additional features: (1) Environmentally Friendly Bulkheads (EFB) will be constructed along portions of the east and west sides of the SAC from the U.S. Coast Guard station to just south of the Turning Notch with a total length of approximately 6300 feet; (2) Approximately 5 acres of Artificial Reef will be constructed and include the transplantation of approximately 11,500 corals from impact areas; and (3) Outplanting of approximately 103,000 nursery raised corals. Other work may include drilling and blasting (includes protected species observers, fish-kill monitoring, protected species watch plan, and vibration monitoring/control) and turbidity/sedimentation monitoring (includes pre- and during construction environmental monitoring of adjacent hardbottom communities for direct and indirect impacts associated with construction activities).
