Description
****Amendment 1: The response date for this SSS is hereby extended from October 7, 2019 to October 28, 2019.**** Sources Sought Synopsis for Magnetic Particle Inspection Units (NSN 6635-01-396-2798 & 6635-00-361-4631) PURPOSE/DESCRIPTION The Government is conducting market research to identify potential sources that possess the production data, expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet qualification requirements for the production of the Magnetic Particle Inspection units identified in Table 1. This acquisition is for commercial unit meeting the characteristic of Product Description: PD-AFLCMC-EZPT-19-01. The acquisition strategy is a five-year contract (basic plus four option years) and will continue through FY24. The projected quantities will be an aggregate total of all system sizes (52 inch, and 100 inch), for a best estimated quantity of 19 per year. National Stock Number Type Size Class Form Quantity 6635013962798 I 52 inch A SF 5 6635003614631 II 100 inch A SF 90 Table 1. Total Estimated Quantities Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) is a type of non-destructive testing (NDT) that is utilized to detect surface and shallow subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt, and some of their alloys. MPI is critical technology that is used to maintain and support various equipment throughout the Air Force. Typical MPI units consist of an induction coil, a tank to hold suspension and particles, and a booth with a hood to remove light. MPI works by either directly or indirectly magnetizing a material. Magnetic particles in either dry or wet suspension are then applied to the magnetized material. If the material has a surface or subsurface discontinuity magnetic flux will be leaked. Magnetic particles will be attracted to the flux leakage indicating the discontinuity to the user. -- Telephone support, at a minimum, shall be provided for installation of equipment during the warranty period. See attached Sources Sought Synopsis with Contractor Capabilty Survey and MPI Unit Product Description for additional information.
