- Description
- The KC-135 utilizes the legacy V/UHF satellite system, UHF Follow-On (UFO), to communicate with their controlling Command & Control (C2) agencies and other warfighters they are supporting. This allows for line-of-sight (LOS) dynamic real-time tasks to keep pace with the ever changing operating environment to enhance mission success. The installed equipment that provides this communications path is the ARC-210 UHF SATCOM RT-1794 (C), Receiver/Transmitter Part Number 822-0383-001, National Stock Number (NSN) 582101456 3702. The R/T will reach its end-of-service life in 2023 and the current UFO system was initially launched in 1993 and is nearing its projected end-of-service life in 2020. Mobility Air Force (MAF) aircraft and ground Command and Control (C2) agencies require secure communications capabilities, including global voice, data, tactical data, video, and video teleconference (VTC) connectivity, and appropriate C2 and Situational Awareness (SA) aircrew and C2 operator software applications. These capabilities will enable more effective collaborative planning and mission execution. The MUOS capable SATCOM radio shall integrate a BLOS and LOS capability for secure voice and C2 data communications exchange between MAF aircraft and C2 agencies and is capable of operating with new crypto algorithms being developed under the VINSON/ANDVT Crypto Modernization (VACM) Program by National Security Agency. There are 396 KC-135 aircraft based throughout the United States (U.S.), Pacific, and Europe that will receive the MUOS capable SATCOM system. KC-135 MUOS will consist of: MUOS capable Receiver/Transmitter, and all associated Group A/B components. Projected time-line for KC-135 MUOS fielding is FY23 with installs continuing through FY27.The Government is conducting market research to identify potential sources possessing the production data/repair data, expertise, capabilities, and experience to provide a replacement solutions(s) and integration of a replacement or upgrade into the current KC-135 SATCOM communications system. The contractor shall have the ability to leverage on-going, planned or future SATCOM system developments that could contribute to reducing total lifecycle cost and risk to the program.
