- Description
- Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Tactical Warfare Simulation (MTWS) re-engineering goals include the incorporation of modern computing and software design principles to improve the maintainability and extensibility of the current software code base. The code base was originally designed in the 1980s and modernized in the mid-1990s. Since that time the code base has undergone extensive modification but essentially no modernization. In order to bring modern computing paradigms to the system the 516th Software Engineering Squadron (516 SWES) intends to re-architect the current MTWS using High Performance Computing (HPC) paradigms including the incorporation of a Parallel Virtual File System (PVFS) as the primary data management concept. 516 SWES has journeyman level experience with PVFS in the form of OrangeFS and data constructs. 516 SWES requires SME level understanding of the State Machine (SM) controlling OrangeFS in order to extend the concept from a local store to a network distributed store, as well as the tuning of OrangeFS and the build environment parameters in order to hook OrangeFS into the existing MTWS code. This allows OrangeFS to replace the current message passing interface (MPI) found in MTWS. The objective of this effort is to share with OrangeFS designer(s) and SME(s) the details of the MTWS current message passing interface and 516 SWES proposed design for replacing the current MTWS MPI. 516 SWES needs feedback on that design so as to define and document a standard Interface Control Document (ICD) specifying the MTWS OrangeFS interface. 516 SWES also intends to improve journeyman level understanding of OrangeFS SM design and implementation to SME level understanding to enable the modification of OrangeFS from local instance to networked instance.
