Description
The U.S. Department of Education (Department) anticipates the release of the 2020 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program Phase II solicitation on or about January 15, 2020. The purpose of the SBIR program is to stimulate technological innovation in the private sector, strengthen the role of small businesses in meeting the Department research/research and development (R/R&D) needs, increase the commercial potential of the Department-supported research results, and improve the return on investment from Federally-funded research for economic and social benefits to the Nation. The Department invites eligible small business firms who received a 2019 Phase I award from the Departments SBIR program to submit a 2020 Phase II proposal under this program solicitation. This solicitation is for proposals to fully develop education technology products for use by: Students or teachers (or other instructional personnel) in authentic education settings; or Infants, toddlers, or students with or at risk for disabilities, or teachers (or other instructional personnel, related services providers, or family members) in early intervention or special education; or School administrators in authentic education settings or in early intervention or special education settings. Products must fall in one of these priority areas (not all). Phase II is to expand on the results of and to further pursue the development of Phase I projects. Phase II is the principal R/R&D effort. It requires a more comprehensive plan that outlines the effort in detail and describes the commercial potential of the product or tool. Awards are for periods up to two (2) years in amounts up to $900,000. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. Qualified Department of Education SBIR Phase I award winners from 2019 are invited to apply.
