Description
2020-DLA_00175 Item Name:Auxiliary Power Unit with Container NSN: 5998016761630 Part Number: 57K7331 Min. Ordering Qty: 64 Ea. Max Ordering Qty: 128 Ea. End Item: M1A2SEPv3 Abrams Response Date: 26 March 2020 Requirements Description: The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) provides an M1 series tank with electrical power to maintain battery charge and to operate vehicle electrical systems without vehicle engine operation. The APU consists of a belt-driven 28-volt generator, a 2-cylinder air-cooled diesel engine, a control box assembly, and a self-contained fuel supply. Power from vehicle batteries is used to drive the APU generator (in starter mode) through controls on the control box assembly. When in starter mode, the generator turns over the engine through a set of drive V belts. The engine is permitted to warm up, and then the generator is manually switched to load mode to produce electrical charge to vehicle batteries. The 28 V dc generator, driven by the diesel engine produces an output of 154 to 204 amperes to maintain vehicle battery charge without vehicle engine operation.
