The Industry Day event will consist of a formal presentation inclusive of engineering, environmental and contractual overviews, question and answer session, closing remarks and site visit to the North Beach Park Access. This site visit will provide prospective contractors an opportunity to walk the beach and view a few of the existing seawalls to gain a better understanding of the requirement. Note: Proper Shoes, Sunglasses and Sunscreen are recommended. Project Description Work associated with the subject requirement includes beach and dune construction along 2.6 miles of shoreline along a portion of South Ponte Vedra and Vilano Beach, in St. Johns County, Florida, between FDEP Range Monuments R-103.5 and R-116.5. Tapers will be included at the north and south end of the dune and berm template which will extend approximately 1,000 feet, transitioning the proposed beach restoration project to the existing shoreline. The landward portion of the beach berm will be flat and has a berm elevation of +8.0 feet North Atlantic Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). The seaward 60 feet of the berm will have a seaward slope of 1V:60H to an elevation of +7.0 NAVD88. The foreshore slope of the berm will be 1V:10H until it ties into existing grade. The dune crest varies in height between +15.0 and +18.0 feet NAVD88, reflecting the average elevation of the natural dune. The slope of the seaward face of the dune is 1V:3H. Planting of dune vegetation will take place following completion of constructed segments. Sand for the project will be dredged from portions of the flood shoal, Intracoastal Waterway and Davis Shoal. Project work also includes, but is not limited to beach tilling, vibration monitoring, turbidity monitoring and environmental species monitoring. Project Considerations Excavation of beach fill material includes work to be conducted in a highly dynamic inlet system consisting of strong currents, highly variable sea conditions within a federal navigation channel. Transportation of beach fill material includes placement of pipe within the inlet, and potentially over the existing Vilano groin and along a highly populated narrow beach that is not receiving sand, or potentially out of the inlet and into the open ocean to the beach fill area. Placement of beach fill material includes construction of a dune feature, adjacent to, under, and over numerous privately and publically owned structures. The structures include seawalls, beach access walkovers, and other miscellaneous property improvements (e.g, decking platforms, benching, etc.). Seawalls along the shoreline vary in height, composition of materials, and location along the beach. Some seawalls were constructed uniformly to front multiple properties, but generally the structures vary property by property. Work around these structures will require small non-tracked equipment and possibly handwork by the contractor. Contractor will be responsible for procuring, transporting, sustaining, planting and ensuring successful establishment of dune vegetation. In order to prepare a list of attendees participating in this Industry Day, it is requested that an e-mail be sent to Ms. Tedra Thompson at tedra.n.thompson@usace.army.mil and Mr. Brian Kilpatrick at brian.j.kilpatrick@usace.army.mil, no later than (NLT) 18 March 2020 at 2:00pm, local time. Please ensure the email identifies the company being represented, name and title of those individuals participating and their contact information (telephone number and/or e-mail address).
