- COMBINED SYNOPSIS/SOLICITATION Purchase of Formlabs 3L 3D Printer and Accessories (I)������� This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice and in accordance with the simplified acquisition procedures authorized in FAR Part 13. This announcement constitutes the only synopsis/solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. (II)������ This solicitation is issued as a request for quotation (RFQ).� Submit written quotes on RFQ Number� PMEL-20-00997. (III)����� The solicitation document and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 2020-06. (IV)���� This solicitation is being issued with a total small business Set-aside. The associated NAICS code is 333244, PSC code 7025.� (V)����� This combined solicitation/synopsis is for purchase of the following commercial items: PMEL is a research and development laboratory that conducts both scientific and engineering R&D.� A key purpose of the laboratory is to enhance NOAA�s observational capability through the development of technology, including sensors, vehicles and observational arrays.� To fulfill this mission, PMEL engineers are constantly building and testing prototype instruments.� 3-D printing technology uses additive manufacturing to produce parts by precisely adding material to build the part from the ground up, as opposed to traditional subtractive machining techniques where a block of material is machined away to produce the part.� This can result in considerably less waste when creating parts with complex geometry, like meshes.� The distinct advantages of 3-D print manufacturing are the ability to rapidly produce accurate parts at the press of a button, design and produce parts that would be impossible to manufacture using traditional machining processes, and create parts with very complex geometry including complex curving surfaces and small interior channels.� This purchase will enhance PMEL�s additive manufacturing capability by adding the ability to print large functional air and water tight parts.� This will allow NOAA PMEL to print protype and 1-off housings, endcaps and molds quickly and efficiently, saving PMEL money.
