The FAP is a congressionally mandated program with The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) oversite to provide prevention/treatment of Domestic Violence/Child Abuse (DV/CA) for military families IAW DoDI 6400.1, Family Advocacy Program, and DoDI 6400.06, Domestic Abuse Involving DoD Military and Certain Affiliated Personnel, to maximize readiness. FAP promotes public awareness/prevention of DV/CA and allows for restricted reports; provides assessment, rehabilitation, and treatment (including abuser intervention) for families, intimate partners, and victims of extra-familial child abuse; and provides victim advocacy services for military personnel and beneficiaries. FAP increases the competency/efficacy of families; preserves families where abuse occurred; and collaborates with state/local civilian social services, law enforcement, and medical agencies to prevent further harm.
