REQUEST FOR INFORMATION� NAVY CLOTHING AND TEXTILE RESEARCH FACILITY STRETCH KNIT FABRICS FOR USE IN PHYSICAL TRAINING UNIFORM SHORTS Background:� Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility (NCTRF) is conducting a market survey to determine the availability of commercial stretch knit fabrics for use in physical training uniform (PTU) shorts.� After review of industry submissions, the most promising fabrics may be down-selected and subjected to a wear test evaluation.� Successful fabrics may be considered for optional U.S. Navy PTU shorts. Description: �This request for information (RFI) is seeking sources for domestically produced, commercially available stretch knit fabrics suitable for PTU shorts. Required attributes: Synthetic knit with elastane or Spandex for stretch and recovery No more than 5% shrinkage after 25 cycles using AATCC 135 (1) V Ai Commercially available in solid colors Machine wash and dry Suitable for mass production of athletic/sport apparel End use: physical training shorts Optional: compression types Interested Parties:� To respond to this RFI, interested parties shall submit the following information: A cover sheet that identifies the interested party, their technical point of contact with email and phone number, and the title of the RFI. A spec sheet that identifies: Fiber blend with fiber percentages Material width and weight Style numbers All physical properties with associated test methods Performance characteristics Estimated cost/yard Order minimums Production lead-time Fiber production location Yarn production location Knitting location Finishing location 3. A minimum of 5 yards full width fabric in any color and written assurance that the material can be produced in a solid blue dyed to match Navy�s color standard. 4. Complete disclosure of chemical treatment(s) if using topical finish, applicable Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and documentation for Berry Amendment, 10 USC 2533a (compliance is required). 5. Information which certifies that the finished product is composed of materials which have been safely used commercially or provide sufficient toxicity data to show compatibility with prolonged, direct skin contact.� The finished cloth shall not present a dermal health hazard when used as intended.� Requested information and sample yardage listed above shall be received at NCTRF no later than COB 18 December 2020.� Information provided will be handled as proprietary and samples will not be returned.� Contact:� Point of contact for this request is Julie Kontos, 508-206-2780, julie.m.kontos.civ@mail.mil.� Shipping address: Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility, Attn.
