- Description
- The purpose of this contract is to chemically treat areas of the invasive species salt cedar (Tamarix ramosissima) aka tamarisk. The services in this contract are for furnishing spray equipment, operator, transportation, basal oil surfactant, GPS files of treated areas and all other operation supplies to treat approximately 60 acres of Tamarisk on the Cimarron National Grassland in compliance with the terms, specifications and provisions contained herein. Total treatment area is approximately 60 acres located on the Cimmarron National Grassland in Morton County, Kansas. The unit is located northwest of Elkhart, Kansas in then Cimmarron River Corridor. (see attachment B) The Forest Service will obtain necessary permissions to access the site via county roads, Forest roads, and a two-track that are used to access the project site(s). Before the start of this project, an initial walk through of the proposed project area will be conducted. This meeting will include the Contractor, the COR and the GTM. If all parties are in agreement, then the actual implementation of the contracted work will begin at this time. The treatment area will be in flat or nearly flat areas with slopes less than 10 percent, along the Cimmarron River which has been invaded by tamarisk. Deep, sandy soils are common within the project area, so caution is warranted. Edges of the treatment area shall be either existing roads, powerlines, the Cimarron River, or flagged by orange ribbon (flagging). Dominant vegetation consists of tamarisk with stems ranging from 0.5 8 diameter at 6 above the ground, and most stems smaller than 2.5 diameter at 6 above the ground. However, there are stems that are larger than 8 located within the treatment area. Many of the Tamarisk plants were burned as a result of the Murphy Trailhead Fire that took place July 18, 2020. Small patches or individual cottonwood and willow are also present; only the tamarisk will be treated chemically. The boundary of the treatment units will be marked with orange flagging. All costs (excluding chemical) to the contractor (such as transportation of equipment, travel by the operator, supplies (including basal oil surfactant) etc.)) are to be included in the cost per acre. The chemical to be used will be supplied by the Forest Service. Contractor will only be paid for wetted acres completed as measured by the Forest Service. Some of the treated areas will be measured and compared to the number of days taken to complete, to ensure the contractor is staying reasonably close to their anticipated rate of progress. The project will be accomplished by the contractor using spray equipment that can get around in the sandy soils so that all tamarisk stems in the designated areas are treated. The contractor shall chemically treat all tamarisk stems within the treatment areas. The spraying should be conducted between May 15 and July 10, 2021. All work will be accomplished with equipment furnished by the contractor (except for the chemical to be applied). More detailed maps showing fence and gate locations can be provided to the successful quoter after award by the Forest Service upon request.
