It involves use of a plant-derived molecule called resiniferatoxin (RTX ) affects in the body that sense inflammation and heat pain. In order to use RTX to treat human patients we need to document in detail that RTX affects the target nerves or nerve endings in tissue and does not affect nearby cells. The difficulty in answering this question is that the nerves are very thin visualizing just the right ones is problematical. Requirement: The requirement is to construct a rat that will allow us to clearly visualize the RTX-sensitive nerves and nerve endings. Miramus is a specialty company adept at making genetic engineering using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. This is a relatively recently discovered technique that has been adapted to gene engineering of live animals. Miramus is skilled at performing engineering with the CRISPR-Cas9 techniques. 8. Suggested Sources(s): Miramus is skilled at doing this in the rat. All of our preclinical data has been generated in the rat. The usual animal for genetic engineering is the mouse. It is important to keep the species constant to that what we learn with the TRPV1-APEX2 CONTRACTING WITHOUT PROVIDING FOR FULL OR OPEN COMPETITION (INCLUDING BRAND-NAME) DETERMINATION The intended sole source is the only known source to meet the technical needs of the scientific equipment/supplies.
