- This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. Services for midstory removal in dense stands on the Talladega National Forest, Talladega Ranger District (1001 North Street), Clay County, Alabama.� Furnish all labor, supplies, tools, transportation, and supervision to perform all work necessary to cut all woody stems as specified in Division 211-Trees to be Treated. All specified stems will be cut. The Contractor is required to use hand-held tools, such as chainsaws, brush cutters, push cutter / mower, machetes, and any combination thereof. Ground disturbing equipment, such as bushhogs, feller-bunchers, etc. will not be allowed on this contract. Quote per unit acre rate for providing the midstory removal treatment services described herein. Theses stands have a sparse to dense clumps of a midstory component and timber has been harvested. Hardwood stems will be cut down that are over 2.5 feet tall and less than 8 inches DBH. All pine species, except for longleaf & shortleaf, that are over 2 feet in height up to a maximum of 5 inches DBH in size shall be completely severed and removed from the stump. Dense pockets of longleaf pine regeneration may exist in portions of treatment units. In these areas, thin the longleaf pine regeneration (from 2 feet tall to 5 inches DBH) to a 20 foot x 20 foot spacing favoring the bigger diameter longleaf as residual trees. ***See attached Statement of Work/Specifications for full description***
