Description
The purpose of this RFI is to assist CWMD in understanding the current state of biological detection/identification technologies capable of field operation from commercial or interagency sources that can provide a comprehensive, cost effective device. A successful candidate device shall meet the following: Commercial Off-The Shelf or Government Off-The-Shelf Portable Ruggedized technology or hardened transport case capable of withstanding frequent transport and shipping Identification device, transport case, and ancillary equipment, consumables, and supplies for up to 10 samples shall weigh less than 25 pounds total Technology requires no power or has the ability to operate on battery power Identification process is less than 1 hour, including start-up time, set-up time, sample preparation, sample analysis, and results reporting Ability to detect/identify multiple biological agents (bacteria, virus, and/or biological toxins) in a single sample Detection/identification capability to the species level and ability to discriminate between agent of interest and near-neighbors Limits of detection equal to, or below: DNA virus: 5E4 PFU/mL RNA virus: 1E5 PFU/mL Bacteria: 1E5 CFU/mL Protein toxin: 3 ng/mL Small molecule toxin: 1 ng/mL False positive and false negative rates less than 1% Minimal use of ancillary equipment (e.g. sample extractor, laptop), reagents/consumables, and supplies If required, reagents/consumables must be stable at room temperature for a minimum of one year Technology must be designed to minimize risk of contamination exposure to operator and testing environment Easy to use and requires minimal training and maintenance
