- Description
- Title: Sea Lamprey Trap (East Branch) Au Gres River, MI Classification Code: PSC Y1NZ NAICS Code: 237990 -- Other Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction Is this a Recovery and Reinvestment Act Action?: No Description: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Detroit District is seeking firms that have the capability to provide construction services for the following: Construction of a sea lamprey trap structure at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources weir on the East Branch Au Gres River, Iosco County, MI. The sea lamprey trap structure will be located on the east side of the river and will consist of a steel marine platform, trap vault, and lift system. The marine platform will lead from the riverbank out to the toe of the river and will have a steel-grate surface that is 22 feet long and 10 feet wide. The marine platform will be consist of driven WF columns that are approximately 11 feet in height and WF girders that range between 9 and 22 feet in length. The driven columns surrounding the trap vault (located at the toe or the riverbank) will have bolted angles and welded plates that act as guides for steel skin plates. These angles and plates will require approximately 1 inch spacing and must align with one another in order to prevent binding during future trapping operations. The trap vault will be composed of a concrete base, removable steel sides, and an upstream sluice. A ton jib crane with an electric hoist is to be installed on the structure. The project also includes construction of a permanent 30-foot-long by 15-foot-wide SSP structure along the western riverbank. The bin structure will serve as a permanent access route to the steel-grate platform. The structure will consist of 20-foot-tall PZ22 sheets with tie rod bracing and MDOT 6AA crushed limestone fill. A 10-foot-wide clearance is to be provided through a section of the access road to account for drainage of a nearby ditch. The clearance will be bridged with a combination of steel grating and WF girders. Lastly, the project requires the rehabilitation of a wing wall on the eastern side of the 70-foot wide river. The existing 35-foot-long wing wall is to be stabilized with 2 corner braces and 4 tiebacks (waler, tie-rods, and deadman piles). Stone ranging in size from aggregate to a D50 of 9 inches, will be required throughout the project as erosion protection. Restoration activities include excavation, grading, and seeding. A maintained road will be available to access the western portion of the project site. A request to allow a temporary ford to access the eastern bank of the river is anticipated to be approved in the pending MI EGLE permit.
