- Description
- The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will hold a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Virtual Industry Day on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The theme for the Industry Day is Advancing Contracting Opportunities Through Leadership, Programs, and Networking. All HBCUs across the country are encouraged to register for this free event. Participating institutions will receive valuable information from workshops explicitly tailored to facilitate strong relationships between HBCUs and the NIH through exposure to the intricacies of the Federal contracting process in addition to other Federal government resources that may assist HBCUs in competing for Federal contracts. Here are highlights of the day: Stakeholders of the NIH Path to Excellence and Innovation (PEI) Initiative will provide an overview of this program, which was designed to empower HBCUs with the knowledge, resources, and skills they need to effectively and consistently compete for and win contracts from the National Institutes of Health. Representatives from PEI Alliance Partners will speak about their agencies' programs to assist HBCUs in developing contracting strategies. The event will include a workshop introducing the PEI Technical Assistance Center (TAC). This NIH resource is a component of the agency's flagship program giving HBCUs the tools needed to prepare their institutions for winning contract awards. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with 5 of the 10 contract offices in the NIH Office of Acquisition and Logistics Management as their representatives share what they can do or already are doing to increase interaction with HBCUs. Invited Speakers Include: U.S. Rep. Robin Lynne Kelly, Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Brain Trust Dr. Alfred C. Johnson, NIH Deputy Director for Management Diane J. Frasier, NIH Head of Contracting Activity Annette Owens-Scarboro, Program Manager, NIH Small Business Program Office Sedika Franklin, Associate Director, White House Initiative on HBCUs Dwight Deneal, Director, Office of Small Business Programs, Defense Logistics Agency Edith McCloud, Acting Director, Minority Business Development Agency Michael Williams, Branch Chief, National Account Manager, General Services Administration. The NIH is the largest biomedical research organization in the world. Its 27 institutes and centers obligate approximately $6 billion annually through contract awards to support the agencys work. The 2021 NIH HBCU Virtual Industry Day is an activity of the Path to Excellence and Innovation Initiative, which is NIHs flagship program designed to empower HBCUs with the knowledge, resources, and skills they need to effectively compete for and win NIH contracts. Additional information about the PEI Initiative is available on the program s website (https://oamp.od.nih.gov/content/nih-path-excellence-innovation-initiative)
