Description
The DOE Office of SBIR/STTR Programs is soliciting input on existing or new methods to assist SBIR/STTR awardees transition their innovations to the marketplace. DOE is requesting this input to improve future offerings of its Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP). The CAP is provided by a DOE contractor to implement the Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) authorized by the SBIR/STTR legislation.[*] DOE SBIR/STTR awardees can chose to either participate in the CAP or budget for their own commercialization assistance provider(s). The current CAP provides a mix of consultant and fixed-menu services designed to help Phase I and Phase II awardees develop a business plan and formulate a go-to-market strategy beyond Phase II. The CAP also assists Phase I awardees in crafting a commercialization plan for the Phase II application. In addition to the CAP, DOE offers in-depth customer discovery training to SBIR/STTR awardees through DOE Energy I-Corps (https://science.osti.gov/sbir/Awardee-Resources/Energy-I-corps). A major challenge of the CAP is to assist awardees with varying degrees of commercialization readiness and technology maturity. DOE believes that the current services could be better customized to address clients differences. Targeted objectives include but are not limited to: Increase engagement of awardees who focus on deep tech and specialized scientific fields. Provide consultations with business professionals having a technology background as close as possible to that of the awardee. Additional expertise in the commercialization of scientific and analytical instruments is highly sought. Provide opportunities for awardees to connect with and receive feedback from early-stage investors and industry scouts (e.g., individual calls, pitch event, etc.). Assist awardees who are developing solutions for DOE National Laboratories in identifying additional commercial and/or Government customers. Please do not be restricted by the above topics in your response. We are looking for innovative ways to improve the CAP. [*]The Section 9(q) of the Small Business Act that describes the Technical and Business Assistance, can be found here: 15 U.S.C. 638(q)
