Description

The US Forest Service, Tongass National Forest,�Ketchikan-Misty Fjords Ranger District, seeks�to award one (1) firm fixed price contract to one (1) vendor for two (2) snowmachines for backcountry patrol during winter months. Brand name �Arctic Cat� is required due to servicing limitations and high transportation costs. Ketchikan is a remote town located 186 nautical miles from the capital (Juneau) and 674 nautical miles from the largest city in Alaska (Anchorage). Ketchikan is not accessible by roads.� Commercial airlines, ferries, and barges access Ketchikan on a semi-regular basis.� Local shops are equipped to service only Arctic Cat brand snowmobiles and perform routine annual maintenance. Purchasing another snowmobile brand would require flying a mechanic to Ketchikan with their tools or parts, to perform services that are already readily available in Ketchikan.� An equivalent brand would not be advantageous to the Government�s interests as cost over the machine�s lifecycle would exceed the reasonable amount a prudent person would willingly pay.
