Description
SYNOPSIS: This Sources Sought Announcement is to assist the U.S. Army DEVCOM Soldier Center in the identification of potential sources for the purchase of a microcompounder or microtruder for melt processing. The Government requests that responses be submitted electronically to elizabeth.a.welsh12.civ@mail.mil and mary.k.prebensen.civ@mail.mil by April 24, 2021 by 5pm EST. Background: The U.S. Army DEVCOM Soldier Center requests a quote or quotes to address the governments need for lab scale equipment that incorporates a full melt processing system to include a micro-compounder or microtruder, cast film processing capabilities, fiber processing capabilities to include mono and multi-filament fibers along with any take-up systems needed for film and fiber processing as well as the ability to injection mold. DEVCOM Soldier Center is specifically interested in the ability of a microcompounder or microtruder that is capable of: High torque processing of small amounts of material (under 100 grams). Processing a variety of polymers at various temperatures to include ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). Compounding a variety of micro- and nanoparticles to include ceramics and carbon nanotubes (CNT). Process materials into strand, fiber form, cast film, or injection mold materials into various configurations. Vendor should address spinneret options (various diameter/hole size availabilities) for fiber attachments. Vendor should address mono-filament and multi-filament capabilities. Continuous feeding of polymer into unit. Rheological software. Vendor should address the units ability to give in real time rheology data of the polymer being processed. Injection molding capabilities must work in conjunction with the microcompounder or microtruder unit. Vendor should address configuration options for injection molding unit. Quotes should include the dimensions of the micro-compounder or microtruder as well as all component parts to the overall system.
